Editing Listings . . .     Top

Q: How do I add my inventory to the database?
A:
  • If the product you subscribe to supports multiple manufacturer lists, you may need to select a different list. (If not, please ignore this hint.) Before you enter anything, drop down the manufacturer list. If the manufacturer you need is not in the list, click the asterisk, then select a letter of the alphabet, or "MMI Top 300", etc. This page will be redisplayed with the list of manufacturers you requested.
  • Select either Buy (Request) or Sell (Offer), a currency (US Dollars, etc.) and a manufacturer. These apply to all listings you enter on this page.
  • Enter listings in each line in the form above. Use the tab key to travel from one field to the next. If you are using Internet Explorer 4 or later, you may also use the up and down keys to travel to the previous or next line. Each Buy must have
    • a model number and
    • a quantity (default is 1).
    • NOTE! entering a price is optional in a Buy.
    Each Sell must have
    • a model number,
    • a quantity (default is 1) and
    • a price (default is CALL).
Other fields (condition, comments, etc.) are optional.
  • Condition code is optional. If you enter one, it should be one of the following codes:
    • N=New
    • U=Used/Working
    • R=Refurbished/Reconditioned
    • A=As-is
    • S=Unused
    • K=Not Working
    • D=Damaged
  • You may enter listings on any or all lines. When a line is complete, OK appears at the end of the line. If a line is incomplete, NO appears instead. Empty lines are ignored.
  • You may click Clear Form to clear all listings. You must then start from the beginning, selecting Buy or Sell, etc.
  • When you have entered all your listings, or when all lines are full, click Save to submit your listings. If any listings are incomplete or incorrect, you will be prompted to correct them, and taken to the incorrect entry if possible. If all listings are correct, choose OK to save them, or Cancel to resume editing.
  • When you submit the listings above by clicking Save and OK, a new, empty copy of this page will be displayed in case you need to enter more listings. The new page continues the same Buy or Sell, currency and manufacturer as the page you just saved, unless you explicitly select new values. Continue entering listings and clicking Save and OK until you have entered all your listings.
  • A confirmation of the listings you just saved appears at the top of each new page. Listings that were successfully saved will be marked SAVED. In the unlikely event that any listings could not be saved, they will be marked FAILED. Try re-entering the failed listings after a few minutes. If you continue to have trouble, please contact our customer support.
  • Shortcut keys are available in some browsers. Typically, you may hit Enter to click Save, or hit Esc to click Clear Form. In some PC browsers, you may use Alt-B to click Buy, Alt-L to click SelL and Alt-S to save. Not all browsers support these shortcuts; try them on your system.

Q: I need to edit or delete my listings, How do I do this?
A:
  • Select a Manufacturer List: if the product you subscribe to supports multiple manufacturer lists, you may need to select a different list.

If you do not see the listing you want, you must search again. You may either

    • Click the Save button to commit your changes to the database. If you decide not to save your changes, simply use the Back button on your browser to return to the display of listings.
    • You will be presented with confirmation that your changes were saved. The listings matching your last search criteria will be redisplayed, reflecting any changes you made. Browsing Listings . . .     Top

Q: How do I search for equipment in the database?
A:
  • You must select either Buy (Request) or Sell (Offer) and a manufacturer. Optionally, you may specify a partial model number or search on a keyword in the comments field.
  • If you are interested in only viewing trades that were input today or within the past 5 days then select a number from the days back dropdown list.
  • If you are interested in viewing your own trades or trades for another dealer, select the company name from the dealer dropdown list. To populate the dealer dropdown list with all available dealers, click the link above the dealer dropdown to (Load complete list).
  • To search for a model number across all possible manufacturers, select the (Every manufacturer in database) entry in the manufacturer dropdown list.
  • To search for more than one model number, type a list of model numbers separated by comma's (ie. 103,212a,2340). You may search for up to 10 model numbers. All model numbers in the list are treated as a partial number. In other words, the search will locate all model numbers in the database that begin with the partial number specified.
  • The search returns a maximum of 500 records on each search. Should you reach the maximum, it is recommended that you supply additional criteria to limit your search below the maximum.

Dealer Directory . . .     Top

Q: How do I find a CTP Member in my city?
A: Using the online Dealer Directory, it is very easy to locate CTP members. This feature allows you to search for CTP dealers by location or company name. To search for dealers by location, select the location from the dropdown box and click SEARCH. To search for dealers by name, type a partial name and click SEARCH. Note: The partial name search assumes that the company name begins with the partial name you enter. If you know the company name contains a phrase somewhere in its name, then precede the phrase with an asterisk (*). (Example: Type '*hardware' to find all dealers that have 'hardware' somewhere in its name.)

Q: What information does the CTP Dealer Directory provide?
A: CURRENT info for sure! The Dealer profile will include the full address, Phone numbers (including any listed 800#), fax numbers, and the all important e-mail address and web site URL if available. In addition, we provide contact names and industry associations that the dealer belongs to. The Dealer Directory is updated on a daily basis. We make it easy for our members to update their profile.

Most of the dealer profile information is only available to subscribers.

Q: How do I use the extended searching capabilities in the Dealer Directory? I need to find a Dealer in Wisconsin who handles cabling?
A:
  • This feature allows you to search for CTP dealers in three different ways:
    • by company information: company name, location, phone, email address etc.,
    • by services: manufacturer of equipment sold or serviced, and what service is provided,
    • by equipment category: for example, mainframes, modems, etc.
Here is how to use the search:
  • First, select one of the search types: Company, Services or Equipment Category. The default when you first arrive at this page is the Company search.
  • If you selected the Company search,
    • To search for dealers by location, select the location from the state/province dropdown box or the country dropdown box (or both) and click Search.
    • To search for dealers by name, type a partial name and click SearchNote: The name search looks for company names that begin with the partial name you enter... but see below.
    • Specify both a company name and a location to search for a company name in a specific location.
    • If you know the company name contains a fragment or phrase somewhere in its name, but not necessarily at the beginning of the name, then precede the fragment with an asterisk (*). (Example: Type *computer services to find all dealers that have 'Computer Services' somewhere in their names.)
    • To search for dealers by phone number, enter all or part of the number in the Phone box and click Search. You may type any fragment of the phone number, not just the beginning. Phone numbers begin with the country code in parentheses, followed by one space, followed by the number in its local conventional representation. For example, a phone number in the U.S.A. is in the form (1) 713-555-1212. Note: if you search for a phone number, you may not enter any other search criteria.
    • To search for dealers by contact name, enter all or part of the name in the Contact box and click Search. You may type any fragment of the name, not just the beginning. If you do not find the name you want, try a less restrictive criterion... for example, enter only the person's last name, or only the person's first name. Note: if you search for a contact name, you may not enter any other search criteria.
    • To search for dealers by email address, enter all or part of the address in the Email box and click Search. You may type any fragment of the email address, not just the beginning. Email addresses are searched using the conventional representation, for example, myuser@myhost.com. Note: if you search for an email address, you may not enter any other search criteria.
  • If you selected the Services search,
    • Select a manufacturer (this is required). A list of the 300 most commonly searched manufacturers is shown by default. If you do not see the manufacturer you are interested in, click the asterisk beside the Manufacturer dropdown, then click an appropriate link (for example, a letter of the alphabet) to obtain an expanded list of manufacturers. This page will be redisplayed with the list you requested.
    • Select a service if you wish (this is not required). If you do select a service, for example, On-site Repair, your search results will show dealers who offer that service for the equipment manufacturer you chose. If you do not select a service, your search results will show all dealers who offer any service related to the manufacturer you chose, or who list themselves as trading in equipment by that manufacturer.
    • Select a location using the state/province or country dropdown (or both). This is optional; if you specify it, your search is restricted to the location you choose.
    • Click Search.
  • If you selected the Equipment Category search,
    • Select an equipment category or type from the Equipment Type dropdown (this is required).
    • Select a location using the state/province or country dropdown (or both). This is optional; if you specify it, your search is restricted to the location you choose.
    • Click Search.
  • To perform another search of the same type, go to the top of the page, enter new criteria and click Search. To perform another search of a different type, go to the top of the page and select a search type. When the new form is displayed, enter your criteria and click Search.
